How I Organize My Pantry

Simple pantry system.

A pantry does not need to be magazine perfect to work well. Mine needs to help me see what I have, stop buying the same thing twice, and make supper easier when the day has already been long.

I start by grouping food the way I cook: baking items together, breakfast items together, snacks in one bin, canned goods where I can see the labels, and backstock on a higher shelf. Clear bins make it easier to spot what is low without pulling everything out.

Turntables are helpful for oils, vinegars, and condiments. Airtight containers are nice for flour, sugar, rice, and pasta, but only if you will actually refill them. Labels help, but the real system is giving each category a home and putting things back where they belong.

The best pantry is the one your family can maintain. Start small, fix the shelf that annoys you most, and let the rest follow.
