My Favorite Sweet Tea Setup

Everything needed for Southern sweet tea.

Sweet tea is simple, but simple things still deserve to be done right. Around here, a good pitcher of tea can carry a Sunday lunch, a porch visit, or a hot afternoon when everybody needs something cold and familiar.

My setup starts with a sturdy glass pitcher, a long stirring spoon, and a tea maker or saucepan that makes the process easy. I like big glasses with plenty of ice, lemon slices if I have them, and a little tray so I can carry everything outside without making three trips.

The real secret is consistency. Make the tea strong enough, sweeten it while it is warm, and let it chill properly. A good ice tray helps too, because watered-down tea is just a sad little situation.

It does not take much to make sweet tea feel special. A pretty pitcher, good glasses, and a porch chair will do most of the work. Pour a glass, sit down, and let the day slow itself a minute.
